One significantly costly item on the beauty budget list is hair coloring. According to the US Food and Drug Administration, 2 out of 5 women color their hair. Many starting as young as 20 years old.
I fit in that category. I started coloring my hair when I was 21. Now after 19 years of coloring I have learned a few tricks to make it last longer and even a few things not to do if you don't want red, brassy hair.
First, let's think about the cost of hair coloring. If you go to a good salon, you are looking at $100+ pretty much every 6-8 weeks. That is around $600-$800 a year in salon services just for your hair. A less expensive way to go is home hair coloring. I've perfected my skills in that area to save myself some major cash over the years.
